Coffee in Spain is just as important as it is in America, but treated differently. It is a major part of the Spanish culture to sit down in a café and slowly sip coffee while catching up with a friend. While we do that in the United States, it is a staple for Americans to have coffee in their hands as they scurry off to work or run errands, which is why the sign reading “Hay café para llevar” (There’s coffee to-go) posted in this window made me chuckle. Coffee to-go is a no brainer in the United States, but apparently not in Spain. This simple sign regarding coffee exemplifies so well the different attitudes of each country.
